Happy New Year - Get out the Mirror for a Little Self-Reflection

Ahhh… 2024…  It is that time of year for self-reflection, life evaluation, and personal disappointment!

Or is it… Picture this, New Year’s 2023, new me (or so I thought). I set a goal so high for 2022 that even my telescope could barely see it. Spoiler alert: I didn't make it, not even close! Then when the clock struck midnight and we entered 2023 I turned into the human version of a thunderstorm, moping and brooding. I was so mad at myself for not achieving the goal I had set. Not only did I not achieve it but I was off by a long shot.  I sat around sulking for weeks, disappearing inside my head in anger and disappointment.

One morning I woke up from a dream in which I was watching myself from an out-of-body perspective tell someone who was struggling, "The Only Way Out is Through." Years ago I had learned this phrase and prided myself in not only using this as a motivation when things got tough but had doled it out as advice to many.  At that moment, a switch had been turned on and I dug deep into self-reflection.

The Miraculous Mirror of Self-Reflection

In the wild world of entrepreneurship, our best consultant might just be our reflection. It's not just for checking if you have food in your teeth (though that's important too). It's about aligning your business compass with your true north. When your business decisions and personal values do a lovely tango together, you're not just making money; you're making sense!

Blame Game vs. Mirror Game

Ever played the "It's not me, it's you" game with your business? My advice – Don’t!  It's a losing game when you cannot reflect and own up to your own bad decisions. Successful entrepreneurs swap the blame game for the mirror game. They look inward, not to admire their stunning reflection, but to dig deep and find gold – the gold of personal and professional growth.

It’s a FACT, the Power of Positivity will WIN EVERY TIME

Being positive isn't about pretending everything's fine while your business is doing a Titanic deep dive. It's about seeing the iceberg as a chance to pivot and find new routes. A positive attitude is like a Swiss Army knife in your entrepreneurial toolkit – it helps you carve opportunities out of challenges.

Practice Positivity!!

I love motivational sayings, and motivational mugs to begin my day with to remind me to just be positive, grateful, confident, and joyful! If the tape inside your head is on a negative track, it's difficult to get unstuck and out of the mud.

As you step into the new year, take a moment to reflect. Ask yourself: Is my business the reflection of my true self? How can I turn today's oops into tomorrow's aha moments? Remember, the most significant step towards entrepreneurial stardom might just be a pause to reflect.

Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
