You Can if You Think You Can

In the world of entrepreneurship, there's a tiny yet mighty source of inspiration that often goes unnoticed. It sits quietly on my desk, a constant companion through the highs and lows of my business journey. It’s one of my rotating motivational mugs, a simple but empowering message: "You can if you think you can."

At 48, I jumped off the cliff and embarked on my path to become an entrepreneur. The last 5 years have been anything but easy. With no roadmap or guidebook in hand, every step felt like a leap into the unknown. The world of business is unforgiving, and the entrepreneurial path is laden with uncertainties.

Like many entrepreneurs, I began with a vision but little knowledge of how to bring to begin, where to begin?  And more importantly, how to get and keep traction!  The learning curve was steep, and mistakes were plentiful. But every stumble and fall added a vital piece to the puzzle of my entrepreneurial journey. This is the essence of entrepreneurship – it's a continuous process of trying, failing, learning, and evolving.

While some may read the mug as simply just a silly string of words; for me and other entrepreneurs it’s something we live by every day.  It's a reminder that the power to succeed lies within our belief in ourselves. When you're on the brink of giving up, remember that the difference between success and failure often boils down to perseverance.

In the entrepreneurial world, action is the golden ticket. It's about diving in headfirst, even when you don't have all the answers. It's about being willing to try various approaches, and understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, but a stepping stone towards it. Each failed attempt provides you with a learning experience that will ultimately bring you one step closer to the breakthrough you're seeking.

Starting a business later in life brought its own set of challenges and advantages. Life experience became my hidden asset, providing a unique perspective and resilience that only comes with age. It's never too late to chase your dreams, and sometimes, starting later can mean you're bringing a wealth of wisdom and experience that only adds to your entrepreneurial toolkit.

Remember that the journey is as important as the destination.

Embrace the uncertainties, for they are ripe with opportunities. Keep trying, keep failing, and keep moving forward. Your perseverance and belief in yourself are your greatest assets.

And whenever doubt creeps in, take a moment to reflect on this simple yet profound motivational mug: "You can if you think you can." Let it be a reminder that your mindset is a powerful determinant of your success. After all, in the world of entrepreneurship, the only real failure is not daring to try.
